History
As one of the most established universities in Türkiye, our institution was founded under Law No. 3837, which was published in the Official Gazette dated July 11, 1992, and numbered 21281. Pursuant to an agreement signed between the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Ministry of Health, the School of Health was established on September 10, 1992, and commenced education at the associate degree level. By the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 96/685 dated November 2, 1996, it was renamed Balıkesir School of Health and elevated to the undergraduate level of education.
Following the amendment to the Nursing Law enacted on April 25, 2007, the Department of Health Officer Training was closed, and education continued under the Department of Nursing.
Subsequently, as per the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 2018/11959 published in the Official Gazette dated June 14, 2018, and numbered 30451, the School of Health Sciences was closed, and the program was incorporated under the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).
Furthermore, the proposal by the Rectorate of Balıkesir University to establish graduate programs within the Institute of Health Sciences was reviewed at the meeting of the Executive Board of Higher Education held on February 19, 2020. In accordance with Articles 4 and 7 of the Regulation on the Organization and Operation of Graduate Education Institutes, and taking into account the General Assembly Decision of the Council of Higher Education dated December 25, 2014, a Master of Science in Public Health Nursing (with Thesis) program has been established within the Department of Public Health Nursing under the Institute of Health Sciences.
